Family Toy Drive Teaches Kids Important Lessons!
On Sunday December 2nd, The Foster Alliance (“TFA”), the State’s largest provider of basic needs to children in foster care, held their 2nd annual Family Holiday Toy Drive. This event invites families and children to bring new toys, books and more to help children in foster care at this time of year.
This years’ attendance set a record as 40 families, including 100 children participated. The kids put their donated items into bins for the appropriate age and sex, received a kid-friendly tour of the brand new TFA facility and learned how the Organization assists children in foster care throughout the State of Arizona.
Boys and girls from 1 to 14 then enjoyed cupcakes and finished up by decorating a picture frame.
Sherie Siegel, Vice President of TFA, set up this event last year as a way to teach children at their young age the importance of appreciating the blessings that they have, and the fact that other boys and girls may not have a stable home filled with love and support.
Families left the building knowing that their participation will put a smile on the faces of youngsters who have experienced tough times. The gifts collected, including toys, games, books and even some new bicycles will be provided over the coming weeks to children in Arizona’s foster care system via TFA’s 20th Annual Holiday Toy Drive. TFA has received requests for help this holiday season from 2,500+ boys and girls and is looking for the community’s help to fill stockings and to put gifts under the trees for so many.
New items can be dropped off at The Foster Alliance office located at 3110 E Thunderbird Road, #100 Phoenix, AZ 85032 during business hours. To learn about holding a collection drive or other ways to help please contact dreamcatcher@azhelpinghands.org.
