How is a tax credit different from a tax deduction?2026-01-08T11:48:47-07:00

A tax deduction lowers your taxable income. A tax credit directly lowers the amount of taxes you owe — dollar for dollar. That means a $100 donation reduces your state tax bill by $100.

What are the maximum credit amounts?2026-01-08T17:08:09-07:00

For the 2025 tax year:

  • $618 for individuals
  • $1,234 for married couples filing jointly

For the 2026 tax year:

  • $632 for individuals
  • $1,262 for married couples filing jointly

These are the maximum amounts you can claim when donating to a QFCO.
